When you solicit donations for providing packages like this, you are profiting from something that you do not own.

Not exactly true. Creative had conveinently left out DK's labour and that donating was really an option. The largest expense for business is usually labour/salary. And not many people donated anyway. Even the Bible states that the workman is worthy of his payment:

Luke 10:7
And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the labourer is worthy of his hire.

Just registered here to say this: Wow, great Job Creative! You lost another costumer (who bought your products since the early 90's). During the last two weeks I was looking for a new card (X-Fi) and nearly bought one yesterday. Thank god I encountered this thread just in time. Why should I spent so much money for a non-supported product????

bye bye creative...

wow!!

first off,Daniel K,please consider joining the linux community and make your same QUALITY drivers for the masses :smileyhappy:

and for creative........my all 3 of my speaker sets.....all 3 sound cards....my 300 dollar MP3 player.......which are far superior to the ipod....

i will purchase from you quoth the raven--- "nevermore!!!"

if you morons and dolby and the eax people would just let your drivers be OPEN SOURCE you would have the BEST drivers around for FREE.

and NONE of this would ever happen.you make an outstanding product, which i wont buy any more.you can join walmart as a place i refuse to spend my money with.

funny.... i have a GED and a couple years of college, and i can make a better decision on this than you did.

bwahahahahahaha

It's nice to see some reaction from Creative but sorely for the wrong reasons. Why is it that Creative come out of their cave only to put a stop to something that is to some extent temporarily helping out THEIR customers. The statement made by Creative was a slap in the face to their customers and I dont see how I can support a company so uninterested in supporting us. Their ignorance and total disregard has left a sour taste in my mouth indefinately and I am sure many of its customers will feel the same animosty. I'll keep a copy of this statement to remind others that there are better products and SUPPORT and should turn their backs on a corrupt idealistic company such as Creative. Looking at the amount of posts that have been made, I'm hoping this gives Creative a wake up call or else they should leave it to the professionals to render a service. Their markish behaviour should be a sign to us that they only want our money and patience while they wallow in their greed as they gain more customers. I would propose beginning a patition to boycott their products until such time they see fit to SUPPORT its customers on ALL LEVELS. Its been over a year and I've not seen anything substantial that makes me realise that Creative is working on their problems, especially for Vista users.

So, I ask Creative: How long will take you to respond to your customers complaints. I for one am tired of your lassitude and would like an answer soon. Or, I want my money back.

PS. I'll gladly support Daniel before I buy another 2nd grade unsupported product from you. If you want some advice in PR, give me a call.

The Munchkins say it best, and Klaus Nomi covered it with genius:

Yup. Bye, Creative.

Like most of the people who've posted in this thread, you can be assured that I will not be buying another Creative product. In fact, I think it's about time for an upgrade to my computer.

here is a novel, albeit late idea:

why doesnt dale offer daniel a job?

i'll tell you why.they follow the MS bidness model......make products that have planned in,engineered OBSOLESCENCE.want to play?

buy more product.

here too is ANOTHER novel idea:make a BOMBPROOF soundcard.....with open drivers....windows and linux/unix/etc.............

make it have a 5-10 year product life span......less trash in the landfill.....less computer waste......less packaging waste...less fuel wasted sending cards to be sold for no good reason...... other than to follow MS's model to keep buying more crap.AND less wasted on customer support...if you have a rock solid proven card.

linux and open source suit my needs just fine!!

So...since their bad practices are finaly bringing them downhill, they decided not to relicense the decoding for the Vista platform. Daniel_K enabled it, and CL got in trouble. It was about time this company gets out of business. We've bought too many products with no support at all from you. No more.

Mmmmmm well..... questionable legal ethics (bankrupting Aureal when they hadn't used your patents (vortex1-2 were products far better than what creative had on the market at the time and in my opinion the 3d sound was better than what is available now with eax5)) horrible linux support (still waiting on those promised full featured drivers) as well as unstable windows drivers being the norm and now this. I will not be buying any more creative products nor will I be recommending it to friends/family. Products I have bought in the past are........

-sb pro

-sb 16

-sb awe32

-sb live

-audigy plat ex

-audigy 2 zs

-xfi elite pro

-zen vision:m 30gb(which is a pos that needs to be reset far too often)

The community is not your enemy, it's the people you sell your products to, somewhere along the line you obviously forgot this and as such have just lost a HUGE amount of customers, including me.

To think, if you had spent some money on decent drivers no one would have cared if you had done this.
