This story has hit the front page of Digg.com I betting that Creative sales are going to go down quite a bit, considering the large technology and aftermarket hardware audience there. Personally, I will never buy from Creative again now that I know how you treat your customers.

I have been a Creative customer since 2000,when i initially purchased the Soundblaster live. Then,at 2003 when i upgraded my system i purchased the Audigy2 which was new at the time. Both these cards worked with Windows Me (the Soundblaster live) and XP (the Audigy2).Not perfectly, but they worked. When i switched to Vista,on the previous April (meaning 2007) the Audigy2 stopped working and was only producing loud noise and crackling sound.Fortunately there was the genius Daniel K,who did what you Creative should have done at the first place, provided stable and working drivers for my Audigy2 card.If it wasn't Daniel K,my Audigy2 would have been useless, collecting dust in some shelve. And now, instead of thanking and honoring him for saving your lousy company from thousands of dissapointed customers you want to take action against him ? How stupid and arrogant can you be ? You should at least thank Daniel K for providing your customers decent drivers- something that you were incapable to do. As for me,i will purchase a new system in May and quess what ? I will never spend another euro on Creative's products-my next soundcard will be an Asus Sonar D2,from a company-ASUS- that respects its customers. So long Creative. You have lost yet another customer for good !

Having used several Creative products for some time, I'm appalled that the situation has degraded down to this. I have long put up with the insanity and the stupidity that comes with audio drivers. And frankly, I'm growing tired of it. I have only used Vista a few times before for testing purposes (gaming usually) and now, seeing this, I can only shake my head in utter disappointment. One of the biggest reason I got a X-Fi was to do some gaming with it. Sure enough, the audio was better in some ways. But I put up with it for the time being. Vista comes along and changed how audio was processed in the OS. Yes, the foundation has changed dramatically. That's something we all have to expect when an OS was built from the ground up to be more secure-oriented. I've come to expect that it'll take some time. Still, even though the Release Candidates were made available, I find it disappointing that Creative, a company with resources to produce drivers, would not release software support until much later after Vista was released, even after its retail release date last year. You'd think that a company which produces audio card would spend some resources into ensuring that drivers would be readily available by the time the new OS can be purchased at retail channels. This is the most appropriate and logical step to be made. All it takes is some calls to the MS geeks and they should be able to send the driver API documentations over along with sample driver codes to get people started. So where exactly did it all lagged? The handling of this situation is extremely poor. Granted, there are certain legal technicalities involved that makes this decision correct. But the wording, the tone, the implications, it all seem incorrect and have left not only a sour note with many of the customers and future customers but also extreme bitterness towards the Creative company itself. There are plenty of opportunities to learn from your (Creative) mistake. If you view companies such as nVIDIA, ATi/AMD, and Intel, not only have they provided support for their products but they provide support for products that have long since been outdated. Of course, supporting older products is only by way of ensuring that it can at least work with the functionalities and features provided by the hardware. However, nVIDIA has never gone after those who provided "optimized" drivers and neither have ATi. Intel has been pouring resources to supplying support for open source drivers for X.org's X Window System, which shows that they are committed to providing support for their products even if those products are years old. AMD is working on providing hardware specifications and documentations for their newer (and soon older) generations of Radeon chips. It will not be long until we see 3D working fluently well under X without the need for using binary-only drivers. nVIDIA may not have open source drivers for their products but their commitment to supporting older products have been virtually a standard amongst their released drivers. Yet even when freelance hackers toy around with the reference drivers, nVIDIA never told them to take them down or to stop. There is some differences when people say that they will purchase competing products. But the main thing I'd like to stress here is what product can truly compete on the same scale? The hardware must be able to offload audio processing from the CPU despite the fact that today's current generation of CPUs can handle the processing with ease. Still, when it comes to gaming, every CPU cycle counts and that's the reason to go with something like a X-Fi. Creative has a firm grip on that particular segment. So I question that in hopes of those who have the absolute technical know-how to answer this correctly and firmly. I know that onboard solutions are okay for common tasks. That's fine. But for the gamers who need the best audio quality and have its audio processing be done on the audio chip and not done in software (via CPU), a dedicated sound card is a must. And a true competing product must be found that does not rely on Creative's product/technology and poor driver implementation.

Yet another bug me not! I lost mad respect for this company! This made me shut down my computer and remove my X-FI. I would rather use onboard sound now. I have used creative products for years and am really disappointed in this. I am going to write to my local TV stations and see if they will run a story about this non-sense. Regards , Mike from USA (AKA. Ex-Creative customer) PS. Welcome to the top 10 on digg.com! LOL!
