Ok, i too have registered just to post this. i was in the market for a soundcard and i was considering a creative one. Although i use xp and the aforementioned driver issues wont really effect me, i've decided to stick my middle finger in CL's face solely because of their attitude toward their customers. And as everyone mentioned, i'll tell my friends to stay away from their products too. To CL: If the only thing you care about is making money - and not caring for the customers that put the money into your pockets - then you will eventually collapse.

I am one of the few who registered to post once. A long time creative user and advocate. I remember thinking how cool I was in high school because I had the newest SoundBlaster card. My midi sounded just a little better than all my other band geek friends. I became nearly evangelical about the Audigy 2 Platinum after I bought it for XP. I purchased a Creative Zen Microphoto. I have always had issues getting the stupid thing to connect in Windows XP, fortunately Linux has been there to help with that. Thanks to the open source libmtp I am able to actually use my mp3 player without too much hassle. I have been dissapointed in your support of Linux. A few years ago when heard of your new Linux driver that was supposedly under development I became quite exited. However, I was wise enough to wait until I saw a working driver before I commited to an XF-i card. I'm glad I waited. Daniel_k may have violated your patents and your "IP" but at least he kept your customers happy. After hearing your response to him I am now under a moral obligation to never purchase or reccomend your products to anyone at any time. Matter of fact I will site this thread as to why people should never use Creative products again. Dale-CL, your antagonistic attitude towards your customers has shown your real side. Thanks for showing us. Message Edited by tubasoldier on 03-29-2008 09:40 PM

...all of you can go to hell with your whiny baby antics... "WAAAHH ill never buy creative again WWWWAAAAAAHH!!!!!!!" ...they dont want the guy discussing modded drivers on their own official company boards... ...and they informed him as to the legal ramifications of doing such as a courtesy... ...stop your god **bleep** whining... ...if you didnt want their products so much you wouldnt be here... ...and if you dont want to be here... ...smeg off instead of posting a hundred times about how much you dont like creative... ...havent you got equally pointless endeavours to accomplish... ...like finding a way to clear the surmounting gaseous cloud of lameness that surrounds you?... ...go to hell... ...signed, me... Nothing in this thread surprises me. Often companies will make seemingly poor and obviously unpopular decisions due to various legal requirements, like those that may be in a technology licensing agreement. If Company A licenses Technology A exclusively to Company B for some amount of money, then it might be considered a very expensive violation of that license agreement were Company A to allow CommunityMember A to release similar software even unofficially. Even the implication of tacit approval might be enough to legally constitute a violation to the agreement. There may also be aspects of trademark and/or copyright and/or patent protection involved here. I assume here from the tone of the first "official" Creative email that Daniel_K had no licensing agreement in place with Creative at the time that he released his modified drivers. Because of that, Creative may have had a legal obligation to press the case as they have, as a failure to do so may have caused them to lose various trademark or copyright protections. IANAL, but I've seen more than a few decisions made this way. Funny thread, though. I thought Creative went out of business a long time ago. I moved to using laptops several years ago, and haven't bought or built a desktop since the late 90's, so haven't had to buy a sound card.

Yet another bugmenot. (From Australia) Long time (before SB16) Creative customer... I won't be buying another Creative product as long as I live. Your "too little too late" retraction doesn't change the fact that you were quite ready to screw your customer base sideways until they revolted.

You feel special, don't you? First of all: - we wanted their products because of the advertised features.
- we then realized that Creative can't properly support their hardware
- we then found DK's drivers and loved them because his drivers properly supported hardware which Creative themselves would not support
- then Phil O'Shaughnessy decided it would be nice to threaten legal action over intellectual property despite acknowledging the worthiness of the drivers
See the problem? They put preference over IP rather than their own customers. I suggest you stop complaining. It's not a matter of discussing them. That's not the problem Creative has. Creative wants to block all of his worthwhile accomplishments in general everywhere on the internet. I plan on hosting these drivers on my blog soon. Those voicing their opinions about Creative are doing a wise action; it gives Creative some perspective over how many people they alienated and how many potential sales and repeat customers they lost. As for going to hell, I don't plan on doing that. (I'm saving this post in case it's deleted.)
