I won't continue the flame war.

I will say that the main reason I continued to insist on Creative products was becase of the long history in the business and the high quality of the product. I found it a bonus that support was always top notch and there always seemed to be more capabilities in these products than originally anticipated. THis was due largely to the community of supporters willing to go beyond the norm to help you in things that you were slow to accomplish.

Case in point:

KX Project - creating ASIO drivers for us musicians.

I understand that you acquired EMU with already had a multi-in/out competing product for quite a bit more. I also understand that refreshing a driver means there is no reason to buy a new card since there havent been many advancements in the way of audio. ALL THINGS THAT AFFECT YOUR BOTTOM LINE!

But if you think stopping a guy like Daniel K., or the many things you did to hold the KX Project back before you first relaxed and ultimately provided ASIO functionality... then you havent been paying attention to the rest of the industry. This will turn out to be much worse for you. I already struggle with going with motherboard integrated sound or spending the extra money for your cards.

No more struggle. I love you, but enough is enough!

this work of art was lovingly created with the same skill and attention to detail that Creative apply to their driver development

Cool, I have an Audigy 2 board that I gave up on because the drivers never worked right in Vista. Thank you Daniel K for making good drivers and screw you Creative for discouraging Daniel. I won't be buying or recommending another Creative card again.

Well, I guess we see a few trends here.

First, the next product many people buy for a sound card will not be a creative one.

And Second, lots of people signing up for the forum simply to post 1 time, a goodbye to creative.

Regardless of IP and legal threats, Daniel_K has not only made this forum better, but has bettered Creative as a whole. Unfortunately, as easy as it comes, it goes.

The sound blaster card in my machine has long been on "death row", as I have simply been too lazy to search for a better solution and have found ways, like daniel_k's, to limp along my card. Its always had problems, crashed games, hissed, crackled, and I swear i can hear it laughing all the way to the bank as I have purchased creative hardware for probablly the last 10 years when building computers for my friends, family, coworkers, and of course myself.

Not anymore. Daniel_K used the sole definition of the companies name in which he helped, being CREATIVE, in making the drivers more usable for the people and the systems they use.

Shame on you for not only flexing your mighty corperate muscle, but for also defecating on your customers, of which make up the community of this forum.

A couple more trends just developed during punching out this post.

This will be my last post.

And, This will be my last creative product i buy, for the rest of my life. I will also dissuade people that ask for my opinion on such products and steer them towards other brands which are FAR more upstanding.

Daniel_k, remember about karma. Good things will come to you.

As for creative, have fun screwing over your shrinking customer base.

Digg has this page now. Good luck surviving the Digg Effect.

Ahhhh man. I was getting ready to purchase an X-Fi and a 16GB creative Zen in the next month... But I had no idea all this was going down till I got linked over from the Inquirer. Yep, I signed up for the sole purpose of telling Creative I am not purchasing their products.

Cheers

I think its too late for creative to recover fully.

Even if they try to fix the drivers and let the customers mod drivers, alot of us will still be gone after how long it took them to do anything.

Find a new company, Razer sound cards will be where I go next.

Here's Phil's LinkedIn profile:

Phil O'Shaughnessy

Vice President, Corporate Communications at Creative Labs, Inc.

Current
  • Vice President, Corporate Communications at Creative Labs, Inc.
Past
  • PR Manager at Sierra Sports
  • Account Executive at Susquehanna Broadcasting
  • Director of Marketing at Stanford University
Education
  • University of Oregon

Now, it seems really ODD that somebody who makes such a poor customer-facing communication, would be a Director of Marketing at Stanford (of all places!!!!).

Thats it!

I've got an Creative sound card in every computer since my old 386DX40 in 1994 (Soundblaster 16). Next month I'm going to build myself a new computer, and guess what: It will be the first one without a Creative sound card, because the your drivers are getting worse with every new generation. And if you guys don't change anything in this situation I probably won't buy any more Creative sound cards in the future.

I had made this decision already bevor I've read about this thread in a (big german) news magazin and just wanted to let you know. May be it helps making you think about your politics, because your hardware is quite good, but your software sucks so hard!

I posted this in Daniel's thread but it looks like it needs to be posted here too.

I sold my stock at a loss. Now that this is on the front page of Digg, Slashdot, and Reddit, there's a pretty good chance that this will turn into a PR disaster (assuming it hasn't already done so). I'm not going to sit here and watch my money turn to a pile of dust; I'm bailing out.

Sorry, Creative. This was one of the dumbest mistakes you could've made.
