Al here, I've owned a SB16, SB32, SBAwe, SBLive, and SBX-fi - so a long time customer, but not anymore. After months of no support for the live on vista, I ended up with the x-fi, but to know it was all a scam, that purpously hindered drivers are deployed to reduce functionality is sickening. You opened the box, I hope you all melt like the Nazi's you are. Keep sinking your ship, and enjoy fury of internets.

You can't pay for this kind of publicity, too bad it's not positive, lolz. I won't be buying any more of your products and I bet you most of the housands of other people reading about this won't either - go die in a fire you douche-bag motherfvckers.

Just registered to post.

Funny, as a very long time user of Creative products (from the old ISA days) I was just bitching ( two days ago) about background processes being taken up by Creative drivers and how I should start looking for another (better) sound card.

After reading this on Digg, all I have to say is bye bye Creative you just lost another customer. I will be replacing my current Xfi card this week, with one from your competitors. I will also be recommending the same action to my 12,000+ members.

Way to go, but to be honest it's about time you started losing market share based on your past support.

Are you people stupid or insane? Just asking the question. If creative products don't work on vista... stop buying them. End of story. For those that are too late in getting a refund, drop it already. It's a loss! Write it off and move on. Eventually, you'll have to upgrade yor PC, so consider it an upgrade.

We are neither. We are p*ssed off consumers that got shafted. The Audigy and X-Fi cards are more than capable of providing the functionality in Vista, that Creative insists doesn't exists, and they choose to deliberately lie about it and cripple the drivers to keep it from working. That has been proven by the modded drivers. So yes, the cards do work in Vista, but without any assistance from Creative.
People who have these cards and then are told that they have to buy newer H/W to get the features they already paid for and is possible to use with these modded drivers, have every right to be p*ssed. They are being outright lied to.
I did write off my X-Fi purchase. Today as a matter of fact after reading what's been going on. It's in the garbage. I was considering the Auze X-Fi Prelude as a replacement but seeing as how that is Creative licensed tech, I didn't not want to further support Creative. I replaced my X-Fi with an ASUS Xonar. Every PC build that I've done in the last 20 years has ALWAYS had a Creative card in it. No more.
Creative wanting to have future revenue streams is NOT a bad thing. They are in business to make money. But, they're doing so at the expense of loyal customers. They shouldn't bite the hand that feeds them.

They need to give Daniel a specific license so that he can modify these drivers. If he can't enable Dolby on certain models, they should make this clear to him.

They should have immediately called him on the phone and even invited him to come into the fold.

They should call him and make a donation, Daniel is what you call a super promoter.

Super promoters are what makes a business grow, they have turned a positive into a negative, about the dumbest marketing decision I have ever seen.

Someone at Creative needs to go back to school, marketing 101.

I can't believe you want to admonish someone for increasing the success of your products and the satisfaction of your customers. If there is a demand for unofficial driver packages in the first place, you aren't doing your jobs! And you want to scold the person doing the job for you? I'll never buy a Creative product again.

Daniel, I wish you well. Leave Creative to rot.

while I respect the property rights side of this matter I find the stance creative is taking to be rediculous. Lets face it. He is providing software for a market that you do not serve nor do you have any expressed intention of serving. Its not like its taking money from your pockets.

I was tired of the mediocre sound quality from my motherboard onboard audio, so I bought an x-fi fatality at its wallet flattening price. I was happy with it at first. Then it started having issues, breaking down(out of warranty of course), the bloated excuse for drivers, and the lack of support got to me. When it finially craps itself, i'll not be buying any more creative products.

Face it, you have poor driver support and he's filling that gap. go suck on a pineapple.

Came to reg and post. This has been Dugg, the cat's out the bag and all the world knows.

For anyone hoping to reason with the likes of Phil: Forget it. He's likely a middle-aged marketing veep with gold cuff links and power tie. He doesn't give a sh*t about any of your problems, he only cares about what the upper execs think of him and how much longer he'll be able to cling to his gravy position. Hence all the talk of IP and compensation. The execs love that sh*t, they couldn't care less about the damage this story is inflicting on Creative's reputation (unless it starts to hurt revenue, but that'll take a while). The fact he straight-armed Daniel_K in public, on a forum, for all to see, points to his inexperience in online marketing in the 21st century. I deal with these losers on a daily basis with my business.

Phil's big worry right now is that tech customers, fed up with bullsh*t from big tech companies who fail deliver, *salivate* at opportunities like this to exact revenge for getting played into buying a sh*t product that, despite all the promises in the world, still don't work. What makes this one unique is that a 3rd party succeeded in delivering the goods that CL couldn't. This represents a priceless opportunity for the masses to light up the torches and head en mass to the door steps of Creative.

For your part Phil, your haste to impress the big guys will likely result in the realization of your worst fear, that being a polite talking-to before being walked to the door for the abysmal handling of the whole sordid affair.

The X-Fi I bought over a year ago has never worked. And despite your promises, it still doesn't work. Unfortnately for Creative, the diminished functionality of my X-Fi has diminished it's need. I pulled the crap X-Fi months ago and settled for the integrated sound chip that came with my board. Worse still, I'll be sure to pass up any other Creative products, even those that have worked wonderfully, due to your propensity to piss all over your customers by flipping the bird to someone the community hold's in high regard.

Way to go, Phil. Your lack of foresight is epic in it's scope and reach...
