Ok message to everyone: What Daniel_K did was against the EULA, so it's Creative's duty to defend their EULA. If they didn't, why would they even have an EULA at all?!
I live in a state where re-engineering hardware and software is legal to fix incompatibility issues. It doesn't matter if the incompatibilities have been introduced intentionally or because of incompetence. That law can't be overridden by an EULA, and any terms in an EULA trying to restrict that right are unenforcable. Remember, it is one thing what an immoral corporation states in an EULA, and a completely different thing what is legal and enforceable.

I've registered for the sole purpose of stating that i will from this point on refrain from purchasing any products coming from, or somehow relating to, Creative Labs. Having been a costumer since, atleast, mid 90's i'm deeply saddened by this kind of behavior, which unfortunately seems to be in line the company's policies. It's not so much as in your desire to protect your brand, but it's in you lack of willingness to provide functional drivers. Also, your refusal to aknowledge apparent problems with your products shows a complete lack of respect for the consumer. For me, personally, your lack of support for your audio cards have caused me lots of problems. Specifically, the Audigy 2 ZS notebook has showed issued preventing usage on atleast 3 of my laptops and not until stumbling upon unoficiall drivers from people such as Daniel_K and 'nomoregoatsoup' have i been able to actually use what i purchased. I urge everybody to register on this forum and express that you're no longer interested in products from Creative labs. Feel free to copy and paste this post if you feel that Creative labs don't deserve your time, which they don't. For those of you who view the issue as a company protecting their ground from "unlawful modification" (as if such a concept should even exist), you're missing the point. Unofficial drivers are a direct result of a company not providing what the userbase wants. If Creative labs had listened to the repeated concernes of its consumers, this situation wouldn't even have occured. Nor would anyone have spent any time modifying their drivers since there's not much room for modification available. We're not talking about disassembling and sneaky-peaky, it's more along the lines of replacing files and adding a string or two. Me, i thank Daniel_K and 'nomoregoatsoup'. You made decent hardware, suffering from software, usable. Creative labs. You are now feeling the backlash that should have happened a long time ago. You have been living on borrowed time and on a reputation established on legacy-products. - A sincere **bleep** you from a Swedish ex-costumer. Well, count me as another long-time Creative customer registering just to pile onto this thread - given Creative's arrogance and abysmal behaviour these past few years, I doubt it's worth a **bleep** to do so, but what the hell. Have had a SB card of some sort since way back in the dark ages of DOS. Right now I've got the X-Fi Elite Pro. Wasn't as impressed by it as I hoped to be, even under XP, but the situation under Vista has been inexplicably, inexcusably bad. There was a long and relatively open Vista beta cycle, you had ages to get this done and done right. I'm a software dev who had to ride out the Vista beta to make sure production software would work and work well on it on release day, so I'm rather unsympathetic about your epic failure on this front, to say the least. I'm not talking about the features which you have shamefully crippled (for whatever reasons - at the end of the day I don't care what your rationale is), I'm talking about basic stability and delivering the goods. Delivering what is promised on the box, even. I hope that your unhappy customers do get together and class-action you on this front - you've been positively begging for it. I'm sick of the forced upgrade treadmill, which most companies aren't quite so crass about. I'm extremely unhappy with the situation inre: basic Linux driver support. I don't know how a company the size of Creative can be so positively bush-league about this stuff, but somehow you pull it off consistently. Anyways, the bottom line is that you can count me as another lost customer. You screwed me on the SBLive, and you screwed me on the X-Fi. After the good money I laid out for the X-Fi EP, and your failure to support me at all on Vista + Linux after a full year of owning it and trying to be patient, I think I've finally learned my lesson. Since you don't give a flying crap about what customers actually say to you (the sheer combined energies spent seeking solutions to these issues on this forum and all over the internet could have cured cancer and invented time travel, nevermind producing working drivers), I'm voting with my wallet. I won't buy any Creative gear, ever again. I won't buy any Auzentech or anything that is going to result in money making its way into your pockets. Considering that I am responsible for 5 machines at home (nevermind a small army of machines owned by friends, family - and the fact that I have a considerable say in hardware purchasing decisions at a major corp), I suspect it will hurt you in the long run quite alot more than you might suspect. Later - enjoy reaping what you have sown.
